ID verification: how does it work and what if it fails?

Step-by-step explanation of iDIN and ID scan, common mistakes and solutions

For our doctors to process your request, they need to know who they're dealing with. That's why we ask you to verify your identity once. This is legally required when prescribing medication.

Why is verification needed?

We only collect your name, age and gender. This information is needed to establish who we're dealing with and to carry out the legally required medication safety check. We don't collect any additional data.

How can you verify?

Option 1: iDIN (recommended)

iDIN is an initiative of Dutch banks that lets you securely confirm your identity via your own bank account. You'll need:

  • Your own bank card and online banking

  • About 2 minutes

Please note: always use your own bank card. If you use a partner's or family member's bank card, the details won't match and your request will be rejected. The entire process will then need to be repeated.

Option 2: ID scan

You can also scan your ID card, driving licence or passport. This can be done via the QR code on your phone, or by clicking "Continue on this device" on another device.

  • Scan the front and back of your document

  • Make sure the lighting is good and the photo is sharp

  • All four corners must be visible

Are photos taken?

During the ID scan, photos are requested once during onboarding. This assessment is carried out exclusively by a BIG-registered doctor and handled with full confidentiality. The photos aren't visible to anyone else and are deleted after assessment.

Verification not working: what now?

  • iDIN failing: check that you're using your own bank account, not a partner's or family member's

  • ID scan unclear: try in better lighting or use the QR code to scan via your phone

  • Request rejected: get in touch via the chat: we'll explain what went wrong and how to try again

Would you rather not complete ID verification? Then we can refund your payment. Get in touch via the chat.
